Preserving History

The home that Cedar Point built

The Boeckling Club was built in 1914 as the personal residence of George A. Boeckling and his sister Elisabeth. Born to German immigrants in 1862, George took the helm of a humble bathing beach and picnic grounds in 1897 and transformed it into the world-famous amusement park we know today as Cedar Point.

He brought that same imagination home, designing this house with Cleveland architect W.H. Hodges in a flourish of early-20th-century amusement-park style. The original drawings still hang on our walls.

After passing through the Boeckling family and serving the Sandusky Knights of Columbus from 1945 to 2014, the home was lovingly restored by Thomas Bodner — a Knights member and local architect — who is dedicated to preserving its history and charm for the whole community to enjoy.
